15% of kids are overweight and another 15% are at risk of becoming overweight. One in ten six-year-olds is obese. Did you know that all your fat cells are laid down in the first few years of life? If fat is stored quickly, more fat cells are created. Eventually, fat cells stop multiplying and an adult has a fixed number for the rest of their life. The existing cells simply swell or shrink to accommodate more fat. So fat children have a hard time loosing weight as an adult.
Make sure your kids are eating healthy snacks, including low-fat, low-calorie foods such as fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Children have a lot of natural energy that has no means of escape in a world where they are driven everywhere and no longer have the freedom to play outdoors un supervised.
